Also - learned some great things the day we posted this in an email from 1st Republic:
"We have just launched our new homebrew website.
We have added a ton of products and functionality, and we continue to add new content every week."

Some of the big highlights:
"Our Custom All Grain and Custom Extract recipe tool.  Build your recipe to your exact specifications, right down to the ounce.  we will build the recipe and mail it to you, or at checkout there is an option to pick up in store.

We are carrying more products then ever now, SS Brewtech, Omega Yeast, Brewbuilt, Speidel, Anvil, and many more."

Today we're digging up the spot under my Chicken Run, why? Well, because it's completely littered with heavy roots and a healthy amount of rocks. There's nice soft soil between them, so we knew this would have no trouble, and it gives Marcus the chance to get some experience digging before he does a much bigger project. At the beginning of the video, he's switching from a wide bucket to a more narrow bucket. Without further ado, here's the video

Welcome to GR802, this week I'm still getting familiar with the camera, editing software and an excavator! Before doing a bigger project, Marcus wanted some practice on the excavator. As my Chicken run needs to be secured, so it's time to dig up the root bound soil underneath that a shovel couldn't handle. Despite all the attacks on our chickens, #VT really is #GR802 #dogsofYouTube.

We're going on our first tour - to The Bum House - which is where we brew and keg our big batches of beer. I'll eventually get a list of the equipment, and possibly put up links if you want to purchase what we're brewing with. We're brewing a Dunkel with a conventional Hefeweizen yeast - top fermenting yeast - so we're referring to it as a Dunkelweize, Dunkelweizen or Dunkel Weisse. For those who are curious, we used Wyeast STRAIN: 3068
WEIHENSTEPHAN WEIZEN ™ for Mel's batch and Wyeast STRAIN: 3638
BAVARIAN WHEAT ™ for Marcus's batch.

the 3068 tasted a bit more astringent at first, but had more of a 'banana' arome and very light banana taste. 3638 started off giving a banana aroma when it was fermenting - but later seemed to diminish. It tasted a bit smoother and richer than the 3068 at first - but now that they've been aging in the kegs, we need to taste them side by side again.

I will update the ingredients list going forward as we strayed slightly from the classic Dunkel to use the grains and hops on hand - which ended up in a much darker Dunkel!

Welcome to GR802, here's a #video #tour of the Bum House. We'll keg a Dunkel Weisse, It #snowed in Vermont and share a moment of #Zen with resident Golden Retreiver Charlie Bacon, For the Vermont Resident, VT Lovers and VT Curious. Follow along and join us as we do some brewing, visit some Vermont Breweries (maybe brew with some local brewers) and show you the sights, locations, people, food and beverages of #Vermont. #VT really is #GR802 #dogsofYouTube.

Episode 2 - Bill Kuhns from VECS and music from Breakaway

Very excited to have Episode 2 done, uploaded and ready for you to listen at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/gr802/2017/06/09/gr802-episode-2-with-guest-bill-kuhns-music-from-breakaway

On Episode 2 - I'll interview Bill Kuhns from Vermont Energy Control Systems on how his business got started. It's honestly one the most Vermont & ingenious stories combined that I've heard. I wish I had been able to ask him about his invitation to the IoT event he was invited to inWashington, D.C., but alas I had interviewed him prior to the announcement - but click here for the link to that story.

I've got music from Breakaway again - thanks to Peter Riley and friends for the music!

What's next? I've got author and renaissance woman Thea Lewis, Kris Jarrett from Lake Champlain Maritime Museum and two local knifemakers coming up along with several new musicians in the mix on upcoming episodes.

Not enough? I'm also planning to add in quick recurring guest updates about local Vermont Craft Beer, local food & drink and upcoming VT events you should know about in upcoming episodes!

Pondering Over Podcast Music

As I piece the podcast together - I'm running into an issue. A lack of *authentic* music.

Now, I'll be honest. I own some royalty free production music - but none really seems to click as being *right* for the podcast. We have such a great collection of musicians locally, and because music is a language that speaks to so many of us, it seems like a good foundation for the podcast.

Here's what I'm asking: If you're a local Vermont musician or band submit your contact info. Leave a link to song(s) or samples on the web - or we can figure out another way to get your music to my ears. I want to also interview artists and bands - but I'll leave that as an optional thing if you're less about talking and more about allowing your music to speak for you.

Here's what I will do if I play your music in an episode. Your artist or band name will be mentioned in the episode at least once (e.g., 'That was ___ song by _____ artist'). Your artist or band name will be in the episode description your music is played on. If provided, I'll put your link in the description and original blog post promoting the podcast episode during which your music is played.

Again, if you are a local Vermont artist or band who is interested, reach out to me through my contact form here and let's start the conversation.

Cheers and happy listening! (soon)
